Frederik Villmow Quartet
Erlend Vangen Kongtorp - tenor saxophone
Philip Edwards Granly - piano
Julian Haugland - bass
Frederik Villmow - drums
Frederik Villmow Quartet gathered together in may 2018 in Trondheim.
In september 2019 the quartet released its debut recording entitled
`Live in Copenhagen´,
recorded at Jazzhus Montmartre featuring two of Denmarks leading jazz musicians,
pianist Carl Winther and saxophonist Tomas Franck.
`Live in Copenhagen´ was selected as Newcomer of the year by jazz journalist Hank Msiao (Taiwan)
and was praised by the international press for its high energy, virtuosity and musicality.
press quotes:
"The 5 originals and 2 standards on this live recording (Live in Copenhagen) show how subtle straight ahead jazz can be modernized,
without losing its important components such as swing, groove and intuitive interplay."
(Martin Laurentius, Jazzthing, GER)
(Dylan Cem Akalin, www.jazzandrock.com, GER)
"The ensemble playing, especially considering the fact that this is a live recording, is excellent and all the musicians seem to
be in high spirits obviously enjoying the opportunity to play together.
Overall this is a classic, highly energetic mainstream Jazz album, full of excellent music and heartfelt performances,
which should satisfy any true Jazz lover around the globe.
Warmly recommended!"
(Adam Baruch, The Sound Of My Life, ISR/PL)
"He only started the band in 2018 but intense work together and excellent communication inside the quartet made things
progressing fast with the great musicality and joy of playing together.
Excellent live recorded debut!"
(Greg Drygala, G-point audio, UK)
(Jostein Einbu Wigenstad, Under Dusken, NO)
I tillegg spilles to standardlåter: «Skylark» og «A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square».
